Dealing with credit card debts
The global economy is in a tight spot at the moment, meaning the cost
of borrowing has increased significantly. Now would be a good time for
credit card users to ensure they are using the best credit card
they can find with the lowest interest rate, and begin to bring their
debt under strict control.
What can you do if you are just crossing the line though? How can you
deal with credit card debt without resorting to a debt
consolidation loan? As long as you are not too far
overstretched, then following these few pointers below may well pull
you back from the brink.
1. Stop
spending right now, if you think you may have a credit problem, do not
make it any worse, put your credit cards away and leave them at home so
you are not tempted to use them.
2. Contact
your credit card company, they can be very helpful, if you are facing a
short term cash flow problem, they will usually be very understanding
and offer you a way to make decreased repayments for a short period of
time.
3. Get your
interest rates down as far as possible; make sure you have the very
best credit cards you can get with regards to interest rate. Pick your lowest
rate card; make sure it has zero balance and balance transfer
your higher rate cards onto it. Do not use it for spending.
4. Talk to
somebody, do not think you have to find your way out of this alone,
millions have faced the problem before, and it is nothing even remotely
special in this day and age. Get some advice, your bank would be a
great place to start, they are fully aware of just how easy it can be
to get into debt related problems, and they are equally aware of the
best steps to help a person dig themselves out of it.
5. Change
your budget, cutting down on your cost of living, by removing luxury
items from your shopping list and using the extra cash saved to make
larger credit card repayments will help to get you back onto the right
side of the line as quickly as possible.
The worst thing you can do when you perceive yourself as in the first
stage of a debt problem is to ignore it, face your problem and conceive
a plan to overcome it.
